Support for empty temples “filled” with Ukrainians – Zorya

Ukrainian support

The church temples were empty during Easter, but there was real online support.

This was underlined by the representative of the Orthodox Church, the Archbishop of Chernigov and Nezhin Eustratius (Zorya) on Facebook.

“The temples were empty these days because our believers have heeded the call of the Church – but it is a joy to feel such support, even if it is expressed online. This support seems to fill the void physical, “he wrote.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Sunday April 19, Eastern rite Christians celebrate the greatest holiday – the Holy Resurrection of Christ or Easter.

This year, Ukrainians were encouraged to stay home for Easter due to the threat of the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the police, the Ukrainians realized the danger of the coronavirus epidemic and celebrated Easter mainly at home. In particular, only 130,000 believers attended worship this year, compared to 7.5 million last year.

At the same time, the police initiated criminal proceedings for violation of quarantine restrictions in the Monastery of the Holy Assumption in Svyatogorsk, where more than 300 people gathered on Easter night.

In addition, the question of the violation of quarantine conditions during the Easter service at Pochaev’s laure in the Ternopil region is under study.
