During a meeting to elect a preventive measure against activist Sergei Sternenko, several clashes between law enforcement officials and activists took place near the Shevchenkovsky district court in Kiev.

This was reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.

Activists attempted to enter the courtroom, but were not allowed to enter it.

Subsequently, in particular, the former head of the health ministry, Ulyana Suprun, who told reporters that she wished to release Sternenko, was admitted to court.

Now the rally in court for Sternenko continues, activists have burned fires.

Inside and near the courthouse are law enforcement officers.

As noted, on June 11, Sternenko of the SBU’s main investigation department announced a suspicion of a crime under s. 115 para. 1 (intentional infliction of unlawful death on another person) and Article 263 para. 2 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (transport of cold steel without legal authorization).

His defense later said that the Kiev Shevchenkovsky District Court would consider the petition for the election of Sternenko as a 24-hour house arrest.

Sternenko is an Odessa activist, member of the local Euromaidan and former head of the Odessa law sector.

On the evening of May 24, 2018, two assailants attacked Sternenko and his girlfriend. Defending himself from the attackers, he fatally wounded one of them with a knife in the stomach. Sternenko himself was stabbed and the second attacker, whom the police quickly arrested and immediately released, granted him witness status and then state protection.
