Defense of Sergei Sternenko at the meeting on the choice of preventive measure for the activist announced for the third time a challenge by investigating judge Vladimir Bugil, but again refused to accede to this request.

This was reported by the Ukrinform correspondent.

“We just had reason to doubt your impartiality … In this regard, we challenge you,” said lawyer Vitaliy Kolomiyets.

Before that, the parties discussed the issue of attaching or requiring various documents in the case. The court rejected the request, saying it was an abuse of the right to challenge.

The defense subsequently filed a motion to summon prosecutor Andrei Radionov to the hearing, which the prosecution objected to.

The court granted the request to summon Radionov to the hearing.

During trial, people came to support Sternenko.

According to media reports, Andrei Radionov, being the high-ranking prosecutor group in the case of activist Sergei Sternenko, refused to sign a suspicion due to lack of evidence, after which he dropped the case and left also complained to Irina Venediktova – he turned to the Prosecutors’ Council because of the Attorney General’s promise “to inform Sternenko of any suspicion”.

He saw in his words “prejudice, prejudice, violations of the presumption of innocence and signs of influence and interference in the activities of the investigator and the prosecutor”.

On June 11, the Main Investigation Department of SBU Sternenko was informed of a suspected crime under art. 115 h.1 (intentional and unlawful infliction of death on another person) and art. 263 para. 2 (transport of cold steel without the authorization provided for by law) of the Criminal Code.

The prosecution is asking the court to elect Sternenko a preventive measure in the form of a 24 hour house arrest.

The cases of attacks were referred to the General Directorate of Investigations of the SBU in Kiev, as explained by the prosecution, because of the “need to verify information on the possible involvement of local authorities and the police in the attacks ”.

For two years, the investigation has not officially established the organizers of the attacks on Sternenko. There is no penalty in these cases.
