The British Secretary of State for Digitization, Culture, Media and Sports, Oliver Dowden, asks his fellow citizens to support the press in the face of the economic crisis caused by the spread of Covid-19.
This was announced on Facebook by the head of the National Union of Ukrainian Journalists Sergey Tomilenko, referring to Douden’s speech, which is widely quoted in the British press.
According to Tomilenko, the official called on more than a hundred of the biggest brands not to revise their advertising policy – in particular, to end the practice of refusing to place online advertising in news feeds covering the epidemic.
At the same time, the minister responsible for digitization urges the British to buy the press.

“It is obvious that for Ukrainian officials and deputies, this news will be incomprehensible. After all, neither the proposals to support the Ukrainian media, nor even the basic issue of permission to sell newspapers, are resolved. Just as the important role journalists currently play is not recognized at government level, “said the NSJU president.
By the way, added Tomilenko, in Britain due to the risk of falling ill while performing professional duties, journalists are recognized as “key employees”.
