The head of the UGCC calls on believers not to come to church at Easter

Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church head Svyatoslav Shevchuk, in a special address, gave detailed advice on behavior during Holy Week and Easter.

He also urged not to bring a vineyard to Palm Sunday and Easter baskets for Easter. According to him, everyone can dedicate both the vine and the Easter baskets at home using online broadcasts. “When it is impossible to attend the Easter service, the father can sprinkle these dishes with holy water. And rest assured, you can adequately celebrate the feast of the resurrection of Christ,” added Shevchuk .

The head of the UGCC asked the believers in such circumstances not to insist on the sacrament.

“But I ask you: do not insist. Under the current circumstances, I ask you to confess only in danger of death. And we can consecrate Holy Communion as the strict quarantine rules attribute it,” said the head of the UGCC.

He urged believers and the clergy to strictly adhere to the quarantine rules.

As Ukrinform reported, since April 6, the government has introduced additional measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. In particular, it is prohibited to be in public places without personal protective equipment.

It is also forbidden to move a group of more than two people, except in the case of official necessity and accompanying persons under 14 years of age; visit parks, squares, recreational areas, forest parks and coastal areas, in addition to walking pets with a person and, if necessary, sports fields and children’s playgrounds.
