The Ministry of Health develops a strategy for the treatment of rare diseases
The Ministry of Health has started to develop a national health care strategy for people with orphan diseases.
Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said this during a briefing on Thursday, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.
“In 2014, a national strategy for the provision of medical care to people with orphan diseases was to be adopted. This strategy was neither prepared nor adopted. We have started to develop this strategy. We have identified the main criteria which should be there, “said Stepanov.
In particular, according to him, the Ministry of Health proposes to create a register of citizens suffering from rare diseases, to provide access to the prevention and diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of patients suffering from orphan diseases, as well as develop legal acts in order to adapt the legislation to the needs of patient care.

“These are clinical treatment protocols, these are clinical guidelines. This is all that should be mandatory in any civilized country,” said Stepanov.
He noted. that at the end of June, this strategy will be presented at a government meeting.
