The St. Vladimir Church of the Ukrainian polar station “Academician Vernadsky” has become the only church where a festive service was organized with the laity.
This is noted on the National Antarctic Science Center Facebook page.
“Oddly enough, our polar explorers today received a unique” privilege “- the church at St. Vladimir’s station is today the only church in the local Orthodox Church of Ukraine, where personal sacred service to took place and the faithful had the opportunity to celebrate all together, “said the message.
Polar explorers note that this is not a violation of quarantine rules – Antarctica is still the only continent on the planet where there is no coronavirus.
In addition, on Sunday April 19, winter personnel from the 25th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition are expected to arrive at the station to replace the 24th and summer season. In the evening, two teams together can celebrate Easter together.

As reported by Ukrinform, on Sunday April 19, Eastern rite Christians celebrate the greatest holiday – the Holy Resurrection of Christ or Easter.
This year, Ukrainians were encouraged to stay home for Easter due to the threat of the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the police, the Ukrainians realized the danger of the coronavirus epidemic and celebrated Easter mainly at home. In particular, only 130,000 believers attended worship this year, compared to 7.5 million last year.
At the same time, the police began criminal proceedings for violation of quarantine restrictions in the Monastery of the Holy Assumption in Svyatogorsk, where more than 300 people gathered on Easter night.
In addition, the question of the violation of quarantine conditions during the Easter service at Pochaev’s laure in the Ternopil region is under study.
