There are no lawyers’ petitions in the Gandzyuk – Venediktova case
Prosecutors for the murder of activist Yekaterina Gandzyuk have not received petitions from defenders of the injured party.
Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova said this on the Hromadske television channel, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.
“There are no official petitions in the case (the murder of Ekaterina Gandzyuk – approximately). Officially. None. Ask the prosecutors about it. All of this has been done, everything has been done”, a- she said.
She added that in the Gandzyuk case, “he will not be overbearing”, pointing to the main accused.
Earlier, lawyer Evgenia Zakrevskaya criticized the prompt completion of the investigation into the murder of Ekaterina Gandzyuk. She pointed out that the prosecutors’ strategy was working in favor of the suspects and that the investigation was finished even before a series of investigative and secret investigation actions had been carried out.
Counsel also noted that a number of the claims she had filed in the case had not been considered by prosecutors.
As reported by Ukrinform, on April 27, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the SBU announced the end of the investigation in the case of the organization of an attack on Gandzyuk.
The Verkhovna Rada’s temporary committee of inquiry on the follow-up to the investigations into the attacks on Yekaterina Gandzyuk and other public activists held a meeting on April 29, during which it was to hear the Prosecutor General Venediktova and the president of SBU Ivan Bakanov. However, they did not attend the meeting, which took place in the courtyard of the Kiev cafe, due to the lack of security guarantees.

Activist Yekaterina Gandzyuk on July 31, 2018, sprayed with sulfuric acid at the entrance of her house in Kherson. The burns affected 40% of the woman’s body. Gandzyuk underwent several operations, but died on November 4 of the same year.
Five people were arrested on suspicion of being involved in his murder, and on November 12, 2018 it became known that Igor Pavlovsky, the former assistant to the people’s deputy Nikolai Palamarchuk, was arrested.
On February 11, 2019, the attorney general’s office announced to the chairman of Kherson regional council Vladislav Manger the suspicion of organizing the murder of Gandzyuk. The court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of paying bail in the amount of 2 million 497 thousand 300 hryvnias, which was made.
On June 6, 2019, five direct perpetrators of the attack were sentenced to 3 to 6.5 years in prison.
In addition, in January 2020, on the territory of Bulgaria, Aleksey Levin, assistant consultant to the deputy of the Kherson regional council, was arrested for having organized an attack against Gandzyuk.
On March 16, Levin was extradited from Bulgaria to Ukraine. According to investigators, Levin is a key figure connecting artists (the “Torbin group”) and clients of Gandzyuk’s attack. It is he who is suspected of having organized this crime, incited its implementation, providing in particular information on the residence of Gandzyuk. In March, the court extended the investigation into the Levin case until July 29.
