A PCR test is necessary to confirm the diagnosis of COVID-19 disease – regardless of the results of the rapid tests.
This was announced at an information meeting on April 18 by Health Minister Maxim Stepanov in response to a reporter’s question if the Health Ministry plans to introduce a mass testing strategy for Ukrainians.
“The point is that to confirm the diagnosis and the corresponding treatment regimen for a patient with coronavirus, in all cases, confirmation by a PCR test is necessary – regardless of the result of the rapid test,” he said. he declares.
Stepanov noted that sometimes, when a person, during the incubation period, takes an express test and obtains a negative result, he can afford to break self-isolation.

“Therefore, we are in favor of the PCR test, which we clearly carry out according to the algorithm after the appearance of the corresponding symptoms. And then we already choose the treatment tactics based on the result of the PCR test,” added the minister.
As reported, as of April 18, 5106 cases of COVID-19 had been laboratory confirmed in Ukraine, including 133 fatalities, 275 people recovered. During the past day, 444 notifications of new confirmed cases were received.
