Turkey authorized the provision of medical care to Ukraine - Ambassador

Turkey has authorized the provision of medical care to Ukraine under COVID-19 and has identified the procedure and conditions for obtaining product export permits.

Ukrainian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey Andriy Sibiga said so in a comment to Ukrinform.

“The procedure for providing assistance to Ukraine under COVID-19 has been defined. If there is a sufficient quantity of products in Turkey, especially for its own needs, and that it has the possibility of exporting, an agreement has been concluded so that we can purchase it. With this in mind, we are working constructively with the Turkish side, ”said Sibiga.

According to him, after a telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Turkey on April 1, Ankara authorized the export of the necessary products to Ukraine, subject to the procedure. This is because the business entities – Turkish manufacturers, depending on the type of product, request authorization from a specific authority, after which they can export.

“There is a fundamental decision on the possibility of exporting the products that Ukraine needs under COVID-19. Through the Ministry of Health, we have sent lists of medical products that Ukraine needs, our regions, our medical facilities, within the framework of COVID-19. The work is carried out in two directions: humanitarian aid and purchases. The process of obtaining permits for certain types of products has already started, “said the diplomat.

In addition, a Turkish trade request has been published with a list of products needed for Ukraine, which has already received over a hundred opinions and suggestions.

“After the appeal to the Turkish side was posted on social media, it was not until the first day that more than 100 calls were received. Many different proposals have been received: from 3D printers for the production of masks to other objects and materials that are urgently needed. It is very nice that the Turkish side is reacting so much, “said Sibiga.

Separate cooperation offers are already in the practical development stage, one of which is the supply of mask manufacturing lines to Ukraine.

The diplomat also said that the University of Bashkent in Ankara has provided 3.5 thousand surgical masks and 100 surgical gowns to Ukrainian doctors, who have already been transferred to Ukraine and will be distributed to those who need it in the near future.

As noted, a telephone conversation between the presidents of Ukraine and Turkey took place on April 1. During its course, a number of practical agreements were reached on the coordination of efforts and cooperation between Ukraine and Turkey in the fight against the pandemic and its consequences.
