The Upper Austria Fruit and Vegetable Growers’ Association will organize two more special flights on May 18 that will deliver seasonal workers from Kiev to Linz.
It was in a comment to Ukrinform’s correspondent by Stefan Gaminginger, managing director of the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers of Upper Austria.
“Now, I am organizing two other flights with around 390 people from Kiev to Linz on May 18, 2020. These two planes also arrive on order from our Association of Fruit and Vegetable Producers of Upper Austria,” he said. declared.
Another special flight with Ukrainian workers is also planned for mid-June 2020.
Earlier on May 8, Kiev’s first special flight arrived in Linz (the capital of the federal state of Upper Austria), which brought in 213 Ukrainian seasonal workers. The flight was also organized by the Association of Fruit and Vegetable Manufacturers of Upper Austria after the relevant agreements were concluded between the governments of the two countries.
According to Gaminginger, one of the Ukrainians arriving had COVID-19 after the test, and therefore 19 workers are currently in quarantine – “but not in one place, but in small groups of six different farmers.” The remaining 194 Ukrainian workers from the first trip are already picking strawberries.

At the same time, in the corresponding decree of the Ministry of Health, an exception was made for special flights carrying seasonal workers and nurses for the elderly, who are today in need in Austria.
On the other hand, the Ukrainian government introduced quarantine in Ukraine on March 12 to fight the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus infection. In particular, from March 28, Ukraine completely closed the border for scheduled flights, including aviation.
