In Berlin, at the Monument to the Soviet Soldier in Tiergarten Park, on May 8, a ceremony to commemorate and lay wreaths on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Europe from fascism was held.

It was organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany, as well as a photo exhibition deployed near the monument, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.

The ceremony was attended by leaders of Berlin and Brandenburg Lands, the Bundestag, the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of more than 20 embassies accredited to Berlin, and veterans.

For the first time, the mayor of the German capital Michael Muller came to her, despite the fact that the Ukrainian ambassador Andriy Melnyk rejected his invitation to participate in the joint ceremony with the Russian ambassador on May 2, anniversary of the surrender of the Wehrmacht troops who fought for Berlin.

For the first time, this ceremony was broadcast live by one of the German central television channels – ZDF.

It should be noted that half an hour before the start of the Ukrainian event, the management of the Russian Embassy in Germany came to the same monument, which never hosted May 8 ceremonies, while the Russians celebrate May 9 at Treptovpark. A request for action was made to the police at the last minute. Several people present at the Russian rally stayed and watched the Ukrainian.
