Ukraine pays tribute to victims of Ebensee concentration camp
Despite restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic, diplomats of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to International Organizations in Vienna and members of their families paid tribute to the deceased Ukrainians and other prisoners in the Ebensee concentration camp in Upper Austria Sunday.

“We have gathered here to pay tribute to the sons and daughters of Ukraine who died in the Ebensee concentration camp – one of the branches of the Mauthausen concentration camp. Several thousand Ukrainians are believed to have died here “said the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to international organizations. Vienna Eugene Tsimbalyuk.
Due to COVID-19 in Austria, as in other countries, mass events have been canceled, there are restrictions on meetings. The Ukrainian diplomatic mission decided not to refuse to honor the memory of the prisoners who fell at the Ebensee concentration camp, while respecting the necessary measures, in particular to preserve the distance between the participants in the celebration.
“We could not help commemorating our compatriots, especially on this anniversary of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp. Year after year, the Ukrainian crown has found its place here near the monument to the Ukrainians, and this year , we could not allow his absence. But at the same time, with respect for existing restrictive measures in Austria, “said the ambassador.

The Ukrainian delegation, in particular, placed wreaths and flowers on the monument to the Ukrainian victims of the concentration camp. It was inaugurated in 1995, on a granite cross there is an inscription in Ukrainian and German: “To the sons of Ukraine – to the victims of the Ebensee concentration camp.”
In addition, flowers have been placed on the national monuments of other states to honor the memory of representatives of other nationalities who died in this extermination camp.
