A pilot project to transfer criminal proceedings to electronic format is beginning in Ukraine
On April 30, 2020, Ukraine will launch a pilot project of eCase electronic criminal justice system. The first anti-corruption bureau to be investigated by anti-corruption bodies is the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the High Anti-Corruption Court.
The launch includes an integrated pre-trial Investigation Register and eCase’s integration with judicial systems.
The digitization of bureaucratic procedures provides benefits for all participants in the criminal process. The prosecutor’s office will monitor the progress of the investigation and provide on-line procedural guidance. The investigation will be received immediately and will be able to analyze all the necessary data, as the system updates all information at each stage, time-management and planning a work calendar.
Witnesses, suspects and their representatives will also receive necessary documents in electronic format. And judges will also have the opportunity to access the law to examine evidence and key positions in proceedings in a court of law.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has already prepared relevant amendments to the law, the adoption of which will be a step on the road to the digitization of the criminal process.
