Prosecutor General Irina Venediktova said she had made public statements in the case against activist Sergei Sternenko, based on information she had received from her deputies.

Venediktova announced it during a briefing, reports the Ukrinform correspondent.

“I can come, hear cases, look at files, no doubt. But the main messages, messages and how it will happen are substitutes. They form verticals, a resonant, relevant and fulfilling business idea. The activities of prosecutors at various levels are not reported to me by the prosecutor handling the case, but by the deputy prosecutor. And this deputy of the prosecutor, who was at the time the curator of this vertical, who was responsible for it (cases of Sternenko – note), informed me that in this case, on the basis of expert reports, it could be the case. I have no reason not to trust my MPs, past or present, “said the Attorney General.

Speaking on the words of the prosecutor Andrei Radionov, who, according to the media, refused to sign Serenka’s suspicions, Venediktova said that “I cannot comment on the comments of the prosecutors”.

“Our prosecutors are independent by law, and I really want them to be de facto independent. Therefore, if Prosecutor Radionov makes such statements, it is his statements, ”said Venediktova.

The attorney general also clarified that the leadership of the Sternenko case was headed at the attorney general’s office by his deputy Alexei Simonenko.

“No one affects anyone. If there is a review, if the SBU investigators saw the evidence, the prosecutors are like procedural officials, they confirmed and went to court, the prosecutors are already supporting the prosecution, “said the Attorney General.

As reported by Ukrinform, on June 15, the Shevchenkovsky District Court in Kiev chose Sternenko as a measure of restraint in the form of a house arrest. At the same time, according to the activist, the place of house arrest, the court decision indicated “a military unit in Odessa” at the place of registration, but they did not let him go because it this is a sensitive installation. “

“This decision cannot be executed,” said the activist and noted that prosecutors could then “request detention” for non-compliance.

Subsequently, the prosecutor filed a motion to change the address of the house arrest.

On Tuesday, June 16, Shevchenkovsky District Court judge in Kiev, Elena Meleshak, granted the prosecutor’s request in the Sternenko case concerning a change of address to apply a preventive measure from a home in Odessa to a home in Kiev .

On April 7, an interview with Venediktova appeared on one of the media’s websites, in which she stated that Sternenk would be wary anyway.

On June 11, Sternenko declared suspected of having committed crimes under art. 115 h.1 (intentional and unlawful infliction of death on another person) and art. 263 para. 2 (transport of cold steel without the authorization provided for by law) of the Criminal Code.

On the evening of May 24, 2018, two assailants attacked Sternenko and his girlfriend. While pushing back, the activist fatally wounded one of them with a knife in the stomach. Sternenko himself and the second striker were stabbed.
