Without quarantine in Ukraine, there could already be 240,000 patients with COVID-19 – Lyashko
Without the application of quarantine measures in Ukraine, there could now be 220 to 240,000 patients with coronavirus.
This was stated by Deputy Minister of Health, Chief Medical Officer of Health Viktor Lyashko, on the program “Freedom of Expression with Savik Shuster”, reports a correspondent for Ukrinform.
“We have a number of forecasts. A number of forecasts have been prepared even before the introduction of quarantine … If we had not implemented quarantine measures, we would have predicted that there would be some 220 to 240,000 coronavirus patients. Then there is the issue of mortality and the issue of peak loads, “said Lyashko.

He noted that the peak load on the healthcare system is when the number of illnesses increases in the first 4-5 days. According to him, this peak load could lead to the fact that in Ukraine, the dynamics of the disease due to other diseases would increase, when the ambulance did not have time to go to the patient and provide him with ugly.
“When we talk about quarantine, it was always a complex problem that would allow us to curb the development and peak load of the health system,” said Lyashko.
He noted that the causative agent of coronavirus disease is a new infection, and it is not yet known how it will behave.
In Ukraine, on May 8, 14,195 cases of COVID-19 coronavirus were registered. During the day, 504 new cases were recorded.
