Zelensky attends first meeting of Veterans Advisory Council
The Advisory Council on the Affairs of Veterans, Families of Dead (Deceased) Defenders of Ukraine is expected to develop a national plan to resolve the problems of Veterans and families of deceased combatants.
This was stated by President Vladimir Zelensky at the first meeting of this council, the press service of the head of state.
Opening the meeting, the President expressed his conviction that only direct participants in hostilities can understand the problems of veterans and families of heroes who died for the independence of our state.
Therefore, he said, one of the council’s tasks will be to develop an appropriate work plan to overcome the problems of veterans.
“We need a global plan. Normal and lively strategy. So that we can see: something we can resolve by government decree, something by law; it is with the support of the president, and it is with business, ”said Zelensky.
The Head of State also noted that the Consultative Council, for example, could be associated with the drafting of a bill concerning the activities of private military enterprises.
“There are two bills on a private army which have not yet been registered in parliament. One of them has no restrictions. It is a bill so that such or such group of companies can officially constitute a private army. And it’s very dangerous, “said the president, adding that the Veterans Advisory Council could help develop a balanced bill.
He added that the priority legislative developments of the Rada should be proposed in the near future, so that the parliament has time to adopt them before the end of the current session.
In turn, the Chairman of the Advisory Council, Sergey Kunitsyn, noted that the Council will help the authorities to avoid duplication and unbalanced decisions.

“For us, the main thing is to support ourselves vis-à-vis the participants in hostilities, the families of the dead and prisoners of war. So that all this passes our expertise. Then it will be easier for you, and we are not ashamed of the fighters, ”said Kunitsyn.
At the same time, the head of the presidential office, Andrei Yermak, said that the advisory council, made up of seven subgroups, would meet weekly. The first working meeting is to take place next week.
As noted, President Vladimir Zelensky, by decree of June 2, established the Advisory Council on the affairs of veterans, the families of defenders of Ukraine who died. The advisory body should act to guarantee the protection of the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of veterans, family members of deceased (deceased) defenders of Ukraine and participants in hostilities in other countries, as well as persons illegally detained in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
