Zelensky discussed the spread of divine services for Easter with the head of the UGCC

President Vladimir Zelensky discussed with the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the challenges and challenges of the fight against the coronavirus and the importance of organizing Easter services online.

“On April 6, 2020, a working meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the father and head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav took place at the office of the President. The meeting was launched by the President,” said the press release.

It should be noted that the parties focused on the discussion of the challenges and challenges facing the State and the Church in relation to the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic, especially in the context of the celebration of the greatest Christian holiday – Easter.

The President noted the active role of the UGCC in combating the spread of this deadly disease. During the meeting, it was noted that the Easter period could be the time of the greatest spread of this virus in our society, and therefore the responsibility of the Churches of Ukraine and their partnership with government agencies to counter this danger is now particularly great.

“The head of the country explained that the government had taken the fundamental decision to give the possibility of rendering services and broadcasting them live. It is imperative to convince people to stay at home and provide them with everything necessary for the celebrating Easter without leaving their homes. A crowd of people in or near temples poses a considerable threat to their lives and health, “said the UGCC.

In turn, His Beatitude Sviatoslav informed the President of his appeal to the faithful to participate as much as possible in Easter services at home and of the opportunity to devote Easter vines and baskets in a broadcast format online.

At the same time, the head of the UGCC, according to the church press service, petitioned the president on the need to maintain “public broadcasting” and the important role of the National Public Television and Radio Company. of Ukraine, its central and regional television and radio platforms to broadcast Easter broadcasts throughout Ukraine.

It should be noted that the broadcasting of public broadcasting, especially in the present circumstances, is an important tool for ensuring the participation of believers in Easter services in their homes in all corners of Ukraine.

The UGCC added that at the end of the meeting, Zelensky and His Beatitude Sviatoslav agreed on a format for cooperation between the church and state bodies in various regions of Ukraine and exchanged their wishes for happy Easter and good health.

Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky called on the leaders of churches of all faiths to organize services without the presence of believers, so as not to create crowds and therefore not to contribute to the spread of the coronavirus.

According to the Center for Public Health, at 9 a.m. on April 6 in Ukraine, 1,319 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19, of which 38 were fatal, 28 patients recovered. 68 new cases were recorded per day.

Worldwide, the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection is 1,297,846, of which 71,282 are fatal, 272,819 people have recovered.
