Zelensky signed the law on experimental drugs in the treatment of COVID-19
President Vladimir Zelensky signed a law extending the use of experimental drugs for the treatment of patients with coronavirus.
This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
“Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has signed the law” amending section II “Final provisions” of the Ukrainian law “amending certain laws of Ukraine concerning the treatment of coronavirus (COVID-19)” on the extension of the period due to the threat of an increased incidence of the population with coronavirus disease (COVID-19) “No. 737-IX, which the Verkhovna Rada adopted on June 19, 2020”, according to the report.
As indicated, the document aims to guarantee access to medicines for patients with coronaviruses and to prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the population.

It should be noted that Ukrainian legislation allows the use of medicines registered in the country as well as medicines not registered for the treatment of COVID-19, whose clinical trials are approved in the prescribed manner and aim to investigate the effectiveness and the safety of these drugs compared to COVID-19 treatment.
“Access to investigational drugs – advanced inventions can help fight the coronavirus. This applies to drugs that are unregistered but have already passed certain safety and effectiveness studies and are recommended by the official body of the United States, member countries of the European Union, Great Britain, Swiss Confederation, Japan, Australia, Canada, China, State of Israel. The relevant practice is valid in many countries of the world, “noted the president’s press service.
They added that the law extends the application of this practice in Ukraine until January 1, 2021.
It enters into force the day after its publication.
As reported, on March 30, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law amending certain legislative acts of Ukraine concerning the provision of treatment for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
He presented the practice of using medicines registered in Ukraine for indications which are not included in the approved instructions for use as one of the means of solving the problem of the availability of pharmacotherapy for the period of the epidemic of coronavirus.
On June 19, the Verkhovna Rada amended Section II, “Final Provisions”, of this law, expiring before January 1, 2021.
