Zorya criticized Onufry's statement on Easter services

The representative of the metropolitan of Kiev of the Orthodox Church, Eustratius Zorya, criticized the statement of the primate of the UOC (MP), Metropolitan Onufry, on the holding of Easter services despite quarantine.

He wrote about it on Facebook.

“Not a word on the need to stay at home. Not a word that mass events are banned. Not a word on the clear explanations that have been received from the national police, congestion near the temples should not take place … We also want people to pray for Easter in churches – but now they should stay at home! The example of Laura clearly explains why. I hope that during the days of Holy Week we can reach conscience of MPvU leaders so that they at least declare what their patriarch said, “wrote Zorya.

Earlier, the UOC (MP) primate, Metropolitan Onufry, said that Easter services will be held this year despite quarantine.

At the same time, for violation of quarantine measures during service, the national police have drawn up administrative protocols in seven regions.

On April 13, the mayor of Kiev, Vitali Klitschko, said that Kiev’s Pechersk Lavra had been closed for quarantine by decision of the capital’s emergency committee. According to Klitschko, the total number of clergy in Lavra with a coronavirus is around 90 people.
